Marnie Tyson strives to capture both the aesthetic beauty and the soul of her subject. She uses photos as well as stories of the animal to ensure that their personality will come alive in the finished pieces. As a result, her portraits become a unique and lasting tribute.
Commissioned pieces also give you the opportunity to take an active role in the creative process by choosing color palates, size, fabrics, etc. Portraits of a beloved companion or a kindred wild creature will enhance your living space and your connection to the animal.
Things to consider when commissioning a custom portrait:
- Portrait quilts are wall hangings. They are not as durable as utilitarian quilts constructed for use as throws or bed coverings. Hanging and care instructions will accompany the finished piece and will also be available on this site soon.
- Portraits can be designed using realistic coloration or an alternative color palate to accent your decor.
- The cost will depend on the size, detail and materials. You will be given a written quote for your piece before I begin the piece.
- Images used for the portraits will affect the final piece. Clear images with good contrast and some shadows work best.
- Portraits will not be made from copyrighted images unless written permission is granted by the copyright holder. This is especially true for portraits of wild animals. I do have collections of animal photos available that may be used for portraits, there may be an additional cost for their use.
- Great care is given to capture the unique traits and qualities of the animal. My portraits are not simply a representation of the animal's appearance but a lasting reminder of who they are/were. Take time to consider a few words or a story that accurately captures the animal's personality and spirit for me to use to truly honor them through their portrait.
- Quilts of multiple animals are possible for an additional cost
